ODC Opposes PROPOSED Faith-Based Housing Act

April 16, 2024 - Following a decisive vote, the Orangetown Democratic Committee has adopted a resolution calling on all Orangetown elected officials and candidates from all political parties to publicly oppose the Faith-Based Affordable Housing Act (FBAHA).

The New York State Legislature's bill, which allows religious organizations to build housing in defiance of local zoning laws and NYS environmental regulations, has sparked significant concern among community members and leaders.

ResOlution AGAINST THE THE FAITH-BASED AFFORDABLE HOUSING ACT (FBAHA)

New York State faces a significant affordable housing crisis, underscoring the critical need for effective and equitable solutions to address the housing insecurity and affordability concerns among its residents.

The New York State Legislature is currently deliberating a proposed law called The Faith-Based Affordable Housing Act (FBAHA), which would enable all religious groups in the state to develop housing on their properties without regard for local zoning regulations or potential environmental impacts.

Unfortunately, this faith-based, oversight-free, “license to develop” approach is fatally flawed.

We New York residents strongly oppose S7791/A8386, the so-called ‘Faith-Based Affordable Housing Act’.
